Expert Insights

These tips will help bring to life the mood you’re looking to create in your home.

Tone It Down

Instead of cluttering up your home with dozens of accessories, give it space to breathe. Removing a few accessories from crowded surfaces will allow your favorite ones to shine, and you’ll appreciate your more calm and clutter-free space.

Soften It Up

Create a calming environment by painting your bedroom walls a soft shade of lavender or gray. If you have an adjoining master bathroom, paint it one shade lighter or darker, to create a soothing flow between the two spaces.

Soft Colors and Contrasts

When choosing pillow and drapery fabrics, soft colors with low-contrast patterns create a sense of calm. To keep soft from turning into boring, choose fabrics with a variety of interesting textures.

Wispy Curtains

Make your room feel calm by hanging delicate wispy curtains. You'll still get needed privacy, but will also have a sense of calm with a soft sheerness.

Hammock Rest

Hang a hammock on the porch for lazy afternoons looking up at the clouds. Be sure to include a comfy pillow at the top, to invite yourself into the calm moment.

Floating Clouds at Home

Repeat the excitement of soaring through the clouds by hanging your own set in the dining room. The clouds are made from the simplest of materials and they really do give a calming effect to any room.

Make your own set of clouds in less than 5 minutes.

Supplies List:

Empty and clean a 2-liter soda bottle (or water bottle for smaller clouds)

Spray adhesive

Empty and clean a 2-liter soda bottle, or water bottle for smaller clouds. Then use spray adhesive to stick a bunch of batting around the entire bottle.

Thread a length of fishing wire through the center of the bottle first and tie off. It doesn't have to be perfect, or even hang evenly to give a naturally pretty vibe.
